Home, Sweet Home

For those who do not know, we found a house!  The process was daunting, and we lost several good prospects along the way.  The rental market in Seattle is crazy.  Craigslist is the preferred method of advertising, and if it is a good house in a good location at a good price, there are going to be several inquiries within hours of the posting, and several applicants trying to lease it.   To get our sweet little house in our cute little neighborhood, we sent a packet of information on ourselves including a pre-run credit report (thanks Rande!), a letter from a previous landlord (thanks Mrs. Weyant!), a "Meet the Wagners" document with profiles about each of us (pictures included), and a letter stating how excited we were about the house, and how we would make the perfect tenants.  We also made sure to get our application in before the open house.  The manager of this particular property gave us a few tips on how to stand out from the other applicants, and we made sure to use every one.  It also didn't hurt that we made sure to keep in contact with her, and spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with her every day from the day the house was posted, to the night of the open house.  She felt comfortable with us, we felt comfortable with her, and a match was made after months of searching.  Have I mentioned that we rented it sight unseen?  Yes, that part is a little scary, but we're excited none the less.

Stay tuned for our moving adventure.  The week-long road trip starts September 4th!

Who, What, Where, When, Why

In just a few weeks time we will be in our new home in Seattle, WA.  For those of you who don't know, we're relocating so that Alex can pursue his PhD at the University of Washington (I know, fancy right?).  Neither of us has even visited Seattle, so the first steps we take in the city will be as residents.  We are beyond excited for the adventure, but will dearly miss all of our friends and family in the Lone Star State.  We hope that this blog will help keep us a little closer and serve as a way for us to share our adventures with those we hold dear.
